KAWAII: a follow-up entry

You may be wondering why I didn't cover the Kawaii Crush dolls that are growing in popularity in my previous post.. The reason for that is that they are not authentic kawaii. They may be cute, but the eyes and mouths, as well as the body structure, are wrong. The accessories they come with, are however, authentic kawaii.

Look at the two pictures below. The one on the top is a kawaii crush doll. The one on the bottom is a kawaii drawing.

As you can see (and as I already mentioned), the eyes, mouths and body structure are not kawaii on kawaii crush dolls. If you do not see the difference between the mouths, the kawaii crush doll's mouth has lips. The drawing's mouth is just wide open, and even when the mouth is closed, kawaii mouths are just simple lines.

KAWAII; all shapes and sizes

Kawaii can mean two things, but both are ways to draw a character. The first are little, round squeezable characters who are so cute, you want to hug them 'til their eyes pop out. The second are mature teenage girls who have the biggest eyes in the entire anime genre! The second definition has its own name; moe (pronounced MOE-aye) Either way, kawaii is super cute and addictive. once you start drawing kawaii style, you can't stop! I bet the majority of the pages in my sketchbook are covered with kawaii, moe or likewise!

Kawaii can also be dark. Some kawaii characters are goths, dressing along the spectrum of nighttime colours. And yet, the cuteness always overpowers the darkness.

Kawaii faces can also be applied to intimate objects. Food is a real favorite. But a face is an instant cutifier on anything!
As I told you, cute overpowers goth!

A moe-style kimono girl.

Here is a transformation from
kawaii moe to normal kawaii.

Some kawaii food.
